A bed may seem like such a simple piece of bedroom furniture, which most of us take for granted. Yet, there are thousands of children growing up in poverty for whom a bed is a luxury that their parents simply can’t afford.
Jacklyn is just one of those parents, raising Abimar by herself. Abimar is 6 years old and is a 1st grader at the Cove Elementary School in Beverly. Jacklyn says she is so excited to be in first grade that the minute she bounds through the front door after school she does not stop talking about her day.
Although Jacklyn works full time, when it comes to being able to afford a bed for her daughter it is always out of reach. So the two sleep in the same bed and Abimar’s bedroom remains empty. But that all changed when Jacklyn learned about A Bed for Every Child and how it gives out new twin beds to kids in need.
Tonight, Abimar is sleeping in her own bed, in her very own bedroom thanks to A Bed for Every Child. A simple piece of furniture, a bed, is anything but simple for Jacklyn and Abimar. It is where dreams now begin!
